Should I use Iodized salt or non Iodized?!
Answers: I was using non iodized salt for about 4 years and didn't even know it, now I switched to iodized and I have a metallic taste in mouth, could that be why. I have been using it now for about 2 months. Can I switch back to non iodized and be ok
You should always eat iodized salt. The only time I would advise you to not use iodized salt is if you constantly ate sea kelp. If you don't, please use iodized salt. Iodine deficiency is very serious and can cause thyroid deficiencies, namely a goiter. This is a swelling of the thyroid at the front of your neck that can grow to be huge and look like a giant tumor. This is the reason that iodine was added to salt in the first place, because people who do not live by the sea and eat kelp and things like that regularly were developing these problems. If you want to stop using iodized salt, I would talk to your doctor about how to supplement your diet with iodine some other way.
They add iodine to counteract deficiencies in our diet. Non is fine to use. Sea salt is better.
well your body needs Iodine but in very small amounts. Try Sea Salt instead, it has Iodine naturally and you dont have to use as much to get the flavor.
iodized.
The 2 previous answers are wrong. It is iodide not iodine in iodized salt. It is a needed nutrient and iodized salt is one of the few places you can get it.
Iodine was added to salt because if you do not eat a lot of seafood you are likely to be deficient in iodine which can cause thyroid disease. Some cooks object to the taste. But do check your daily vitamin to see if it provides sufficient iodine before switching back.
