Bread in a metal can/tin?!

Question: I saw some expensive special bread in a can in a health food store and wondered what the supposed advantages are, in what situation would someone need to have their bread canned? I suppose on an expedition into the wilderness, but then I would need a lot of those cans and they would be heavy...

The bread was probably more of a dessert type of bread that has a high moisture content. The can would seal in the moisture and keep mold and bacteria out. The bread was baked in the can. There are recipes that you can make your own bread in a can. When I was a kid we used to make date nut bread in a can.

would stay fresh in the can and dry too. but a lot of products in healthfood stores are just gimmicks.

I think it's a British thing. The value would be sentimental at best.

Kind of like a portable bread box. I agree with answerer 1, it keeps fresh longer in the tin, and you could reuse the tin to keep bread after the bread inside is gone.
