for starters water is constantly going through your hot water heater, which means the impurities in your city tap water are collecting in the bottom of the water heater - if the water stays above a certain temperature it is ok, but the second your power goes out or the heater doesnt work correctly it will turn into 80 gallons or so of bacteria soup.

Also Hot water dissolves lead more quickly and will pull lead from the walls of your hot water heater and pipes

Also boiling hot tap water actually is worse - the water boils off but the lead stays, increasing lead contamination

I was told because its been standing in the hot water tank and its not good for you. Sorry if I cant be of any more help.
