Decorating cupcakes?!
I bought these sprinkles, but they taste REEEALLY bad.
I don't want to use sprinkles anymore, but I really feel that i should take time to decorate them, like something should go on them.
These are regular sized cupcakes from a regular sized muffin pan.
I want to do something that's cute and pretty, but not expensive
Ideas?
Answers: ok, I'm making a batch of cupcakes for my friends birthday.

just make them all solid white frosting, then put some frosting in bowls and dye it different colors. put the frosting into plastic ziploc bags and cute a hole in a corner. then pipe out the frosting onto the cupcakes and make designs. really easy, and easly clean up too cuz you just throw away the bags when you're done!
Then buy another type of sprinkles?
Or cover it in icing, cheap to buy or you can make it, its just sugar, butter, and milk

And maybe you could top it off with M&Ms or something.
use a rolling pin and flatten out tootsie rolls and starbursts. after they are flat you can cut shapes and such. i made dogs... the tootsie rolls were the ears and red starbursts were the tongue. for the eyes i used m&ms and the nose was a jellybean. just color it it with frosting. hope i helped!
buy some gumdrops and flatten them using more sugar and then cut one for a center and the rest for petals and make flowers
cool whip and small slices of fruit is really good (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, bananas, etc)
or maybe try regular candies like m&ms
get the gel like stuff. it comes in a tube. i dunno what it's called.
it's for decorating though and is near the sprinkles in the decoration part of the store.
put polka dots on some.
put stripes on some.
put hearts on some.
put stars on some.
put smiles on some.
just simple things like that are cute.
hey there's answer is great! You could put mini chocolate chips on top. That would be good on chocolate or vanilla frosting.
Bake them in flat bottom ice cream cones & decorate like soft serve.
Well, here is a great place for ideas: http://www.coolest-birthday-cakes.com/
I know that most of them aren't cupcakes, but at least you can get some ideas. And by the way, if you are going to actually use a bag and decorating tips, don't use the "Whipped" kind of frosting, because it's really hard to work with. Good luck, and tell your friend Happy Birthday for me!
All sprinkles taste bad right out of the container because of the high amount of food grade wax. They'll be fine to use if you still want to.
Otherwise you can color some white sugar with food dye and sprinkle on top. Or decorate with some crushed candies (peppermints or red hots or any other hard candy) or cookies (oreos or gingersnaps or other crispy cookie).
