Is cheese made with unpasteurized milk not safe to eat?!

Question: A family member gave us some fancy cheddar (she went to some wine/cheese tasting party)... She says it was great but the label says made with unpasteurized cow's milk - is that unsafe to eat?

No, its not unsafe. I make homemade cheese daily with unpasturized milk straight from the cow. The only reason commercial milk is pasturized is to kill the bacteria that comes into it from the factory farming and handling of the milk. Milk is sterile as it comes from the cow, and as long as it was minimally handled, then it will produce a lovely, rich cheese. I am highly allergic to commercial milk, due to the pasturization, homogonization, and steroids that are added to the milk. I do just great on the fresh, raw stuff-its as nature intended it to be. The milk industry has done a teriffic job of convincing the public that milk needs to be pasturized-total hogwash. The closer it is to its natural state, the better off you are. I wouldn't eat cheese made from "regular" milk, nor would I drink the milk. If people knew how gross commercial milk was, pasturized or not, they wouldn't touch it. Think about the "old" days-people fed their family on milk from the family cow-with no problems. Now, many people are "lactose intolerant"-its due to the overprocessing of the milk. If it wasn't mass produces, and held in storage tanks for ages, it wouldn't NEED to be pasturized. Commercial milk is also full of growth hormones, antibiotics, and the "vitamin D" thats in milk is a steroid-milk is "enriched" with vitamin D, because pasturization kills all of the nutrition in the milk, so it has to be added back in synthetically. Enjoy that lovely cheese you have-you will be surprised at how much better and richer it tastes than the regular market swill.

It's fine and you will be amazed at how nice it tastes. Unpasteurized makes richer and more complex cheeses.

No, the cheese is fine. Just because it is unpasteurized doesn't mean that it is bad. I hope the cheese tastes DELICIOUS!!! I love cheese.
