Why does Fat Free Ranch taste nothing like normal Ranch?!

Question: I am trying to eat better so I got Fat Free Ranch at the salad bar today - PHLEH! It is horrible! It doesn't even taste like Ranch!! What's the deal? I have had other Fat Free Dressings and they tasted normal. Or, does anyone know a good brand of Fat Free Ranch? (Not Kraft though, their Ranch SUCKS)

fat free ranch tastes weird because ranch dressing is made of mostly fat. I would suggest low fat instead because it tastes basically the same. You could also try a vinaigrette .

Can't recommend a good fat free unless you maybe buy the packet of Hidden Valley ranch and make it yourself. Naturally Fresh makes a good lite ranch.

Because it's fat free! Come on, what are you expecting? If you are buying anything like that you have to realize it is going to taste different and let you down if your tastebuds are expecting something more decadent. That's just the way it is. Anything in moderation and if you just can't do the fat free dressings, go with the light and cut calories in that way - just make sure you aren't piling it on.

Cause it is the fat that makes it taste so good!!!!
Try buying the hidden valley ranch MIX and mixing it with fat free sour cream and just a little low fat mayo to make it thinner. It is really good that way, as a dressing or as a dip for veggies or chips.

Because most fat free dressings are made with mostly water and guar gum, and while neither of them have any calories, they have no taste either. You would be better off, flavor and health wise, if you just cut down on the amount of dressing you used, or maybe even adding vinegar to an Italian dressing. Vinegar has very few calories, and no fat or sodium, but it has a lot of flavor. They used to say fat adds flavor, but did you ever taste oil or lard by itself? it doesn't taste very good!
