How do you salt hot air popped popcorn?!
Answers: I just bought a hot air popcorn popper. When I sprinkle salt and butter buds on the freshly popped popcorn, they just fall through to the bottom of the bowl, and my popcorn tastes drab. Is there a way to make salt and butter buds stick to the popcorn? Thank you.
Try spraying a bit of Pam or other similar oil spray onto your popcorn, toss the popcorn, then add salt and/or butter buds. It will add a touch of fat, but not as much as if you popped the corn in oil.
I don't know what makes actual popcorn salt stick to the popcorn but that is what you have to buy. I always have popcorn salt on hand because normal salt does not stick. I use Morton popcorn salt. Also, use the butter that is made for popcorn too. The salt can be found by the spices in the store.
If you use popcorn salt, which is much finer than standard table salt, it will stick better.
If you can't find popcorn salt, all you have to do is process some regular salt in a food processor for about a minute or so until it's super fine.
As far as the butter buds, as I recall, the box used to recommend diluting it with some water to put it on popcorn, but that just made the popcorn soggy. I'm assuming you're trying to avoid calories and fat from butter...I Can't Believe it's not Butter makes a spray that has no calories or fat and I don't think it soaks into popcorn like the diulted butter buds would. If the spray doesn't work, you might want to try the squeezable I Can't Believe it's not Butter. It does have some fat, but much less than real butter.
Honestly, most of this stuff is made from chemicals and I think it better to just use the more natural butter in moderation than load up with diet products that have hard to pronounce ingredients that you have to go to a chemical supplier to buy.
