Is it true that the wasabi sauce is supposed to be mixed with the soy sauce?!
Answers: Because I have been spreading the green stuff on my sushi like a spread... But a friend of mine said that "I should mix it in the soy sauce because your not supposed to eat it straight up. makes me feel kinda stupid if I have been doing it wrong all along.
Yes.
You pour some of the soy into the little soy bowl and put a piece of wasabi at one end. You want to mix it just enough that the wasabi is loosened up, but there's still a bit of plain soy sauce at the other side of the bowl.
That being said, I mix my little wasabi mud bowl, but I also put globs of straight wasabi on certain items. Your friend probably can't eat wasabi without diluting it. Wimp.
There's no wrong way to eat wasabi. If you want to mix it with soy sauce go ahead, if you don't want to, then don't.
no not necessarily you can
I will sometimes put a piece of the ginger root in my soy sauce to sweeten it some but I have never heard of the wasabi.
I usualy dip in the soy sauce then rub it on top of the ball of wasabi so just a little bit gets on the sushi.
you know really the thing is if it tastes good to you then you are doing it right
Wasabi sauce is intended to be mixed with soy sauce when using it is a dipping sauce. The best way to mix it is a little soy sauce at a time that way you won't end up with lumps. The less soy the hotter the sauce. You can eat if straight if you want. It'd be healthier not to ingest all that sodium but I think it tastes better mixed.
It really doesn't matter what you do with it. In Japan, you don't even get wasabi unless you're supposed to eat it with that particular item, and it's already placed for you (usually under the fish).
Most sushi eaters I know mix it with soy sause in a small bowl. I use no wasabi and just a dash of soy. you should your sushi the way you like best.
Its a matter of choice - I believe people mix it in with their soy because its too hot for most people straight - so they dillute it in soy - there is NO RULE as to how people eat it...If you like it on your sushi straight, I say eat it how you want!
No I heard that is a sin when eating sushi.
I was told by some people (japs) dont mix wasabi and dont point your chopsticks at people.
However real Wasabi is not served anywhere in America so mix away.
Although I have never seen anyone spread their wasabi directly on sushi before, I wouldn't be embarrassed by it. To each his own. I just pour the soy sauce in the little bowl, and add just enough wasabi to taste, knowing it will get hotter as it sits. I certainly would suggest you eat it this way if you were eating sashimi though.
Enjoy
actually you are right and your friend is wrong. so laugh in his terrorist uncircumcised face!
In Japan, the wasabi is mixed into the soy sauce, the reason they serve it seperately is so you can make the mix that suits your taste. You just plop it into the soy and stir with your chop stick.
