What is about Calamari that people like?!

Question: I just can't figure it out.

Answers: I just can't figure it out.

While I'll admit it is rubbery it is very good. like other people have menioned when it's done the right way it's actually pretty good.

Iced Tea.

The fact that they can say that they dined on Calamari! Its just sounds cool, and it's deep fried, that's about it. I agree with you---not much flavor there.

I'm not sure, but to me, it taste like a fishy rubberband. Definitely not something I'd eat again. I'm just as stumped as you are about why people like it.

If it is not overcooked , it taste great..!!

Good calamari is fantastic and bad calamari is terrible. When you cook calamari there is a rule called "the 2 / 20 rule". You either cook the calamari for 2 minutes or you cook the calamari for 20 minutes (nothing inbetween).

Assuming you put a good crust on it and cook it for the right amount of time (in clean/new oil) then you must then serve it with the right sauce. Personally, I like a good homemade marinara sauce with some heat added. I have also had a great sweet/spicy asian sauce that was very good too.

Before you write it off, order it at a high end restaurant

The crunchy batter and chewy insides combo does it for me! And eating seafood is a ritual in some parts of Australia anyway xD

It has to be cooked right, then it's very light and can handle a nice coating.

I like mine coated with Bisquik and deep fried, then served with marinara sauce. The tenticule part is the best since it holds a lot of sauce.

Octopus is more rubbery that squid by far. It's like chunks of tires..

I had Squid Tempura once and it was really great with a sesame-mirin sauce. Instead of rings it was cut into long strips.

It's eel I can't figure out why people like. It smells really oily and nasty.

Calamari is chewy, with a subtle flavor.
