How do I look after my beech cutting board. Should I oil it and if so how long before I can use it again?!

Question: First make sure it is clean for food,,,use a 50/50 paste of baking soda and salt, add only enough water to make a good thick paste, you will have to figure out how much as you don't give the size of the board,,scrub the board well with this using a clean sponge or cloth,,don't use the regular dish sponge/cloth,,and use HOT water,,,,then rinse well with hot water and wipe, here again clean cloth,,,with straight white distilled vinegar,,,now let the board completely air dry,,,next hand rub some good vegetable oil onto the board covering the entire surface and then completely wipe off any excess....You can use immediately. Repeat this process to re-clean when needed or especially after you cut up anything like raw chicken or raw bloddy meat..

The baking soda/ salt cleans.
The vinegar disinfects the board.
The veg. oil reconditions and seal the pours of the wood..
Its a little work but it's worth it to keep a good cutting board....

never cut meat on it. wash with soap and water. towel dry. you can wash it in murphys soap occasionally, towel dry use next day.

For health reason you should not use a wood board.

I'm not sure if I am right or wrong, but with my board I splosh it in domestos for 10 minutes then put it in the sink and let the cold tap run on it for quite a while.

My board is a good one and 6 years old.

I guess we are all different so I am not entirely sure if it's right.

But it works for me.

I oiled mine with regular cooking oil and it was fine. It got washed up with everything else. After oiling leave it for 12 hours to soak in.
