Pigs and truffles?!

Question: If they like them so much, why don't they eat them? Or does the farmer have to be quick?

Like the way you think. traditionally truffle farmers used pigs and as someone already said, dogs are now being used more and more. Usually, as soon as the pig gets excited, the farmer will 'move in' quickly and snaffle the truffle ! Some of those bad boys are sold for 1000's of pounds. Never tasted any myself though.

yes, the farmer must be quick

pigs get real good at finding them because they do love eating them so much so that allot of truffle hunters are using dogs because they don't eat them.

They do eat them, farmers have to prevent the pig from eating it. Farmers like using dogs instead now.

just random tidbit- they use female pigs to find truffles because the truffles give off a scent similar to a sex pheromone of boar saliva.

Most farmers use dogs now. Pigs eat anything, so yes the farmers have to wrestle them away from Porky.
White truffles from Piedmont are/ is the most expensive food there is on Earth.
Depending on the year they can fetch 3 to $4000.00( yes 4 k) per lb.
The largest one found last year went to auction and sold for 1 million dollars.
Perigord France is completely void of truffles. It used to be the truffle capitol of the world. Now only a handful are found annually.
Black truffles are alot cheaper.
Remember that winter truffles are the best( not summer).
If you can afford them of course!

seeing as how expensive they are the farmer or whoever gathers them has to be as quick as possible. Though other animals also have the ability to sniff them out.

The farmer has to be really quick

The pigs LOVE truffles and would eat them if the truffle-hunter didn't stop them. The pigs are usually on leashes, and therefore under human control.

I wouldn't know. I don't care for truffles, but I love to eat the pigs. Forget about all that Darling, now, did you see any beautiful castles today?
(how many?) Did you happen to pass through Waterloo Station? How about Old Vic, surely you must have been nearby? Would it be uncommon to see either pigs, or truffles anywhere near these historic landmarks? Do tell Darling, I must know. 3 *giving a star in advance*

I hate to answer a question with a question- but what is a truffle? I am assuming it is not candy.
