I have a bag of precooked cocktail shrimp in the fridge....?!
Answers: it was frozen at the store and I left out one too many by mistake. I don't want to refreeze it, how long will it stay in the fridge? I want to use it in a shrimp sautee on Friday, It will be unfrozen but refrigerated for about a week. Is that too long?
From experience I can tell you refrigerated shrimp gets rather soggy after one day.
If you wait until Friday to serve them they will be unpleasant to the taste and smell.
Better get some new shrimp on Friday morning to play it safe.
It will be fine as long as it is kept refriderated until you use it.
Yes, it's too long. Make a quick shrimp salad now (rinse shrimp, mix with mayo, lemon juice, onion and celery) and eat it in sandwiches or on a bed of greens. After a couple of days thawed, it will begin to taste fishy.
I am always wary of any shellfish that has had an odd storage history. It typically comes to the smell of it at just below room temperature.
