Healthy meals for a college student!! help!!?!
Answers: I am currently a senior in college living off-campus so I do my own food shopping. It seems every time i go food shopping i spend a lot of money and come home with nothing to eat but crap... can you suggest some healthy meals and snacks for me... and perhaps what to buy... i don't like to eat huge meals... but things like lean cuisine just don't cut it!!!
I would suggest looking for foods that are a balance of carbs, fat, and protiens. For lunches South Beach makes these really good wraps and salad kits ( in the produce section) they are low in calories and not too expensive. For lunches I like to eat Tuna mixed with mustard and relish instead of mayo to keep it low fat. On whole wheat it fills you up more. Switching to wheat pasta and brown rice will fill you up more and is lower in carbs. I like to buy a bunch of chicken breast and cook it all up and then snack on it all week too. Frozen veggies are easy, potatoes in the microwave are good, and if you have a foreman grill you could always cook up some turkey sausage or lean sirloin burgers. When I was in college I ate a lot of fat free hot dogs! If you like eggs they are easy in the microwave and egg whites only have like 30 cal per egg. Mix it with salsa and put it on whole wheat toast. YUM!
