Has anybody tried Vegemite?!

Question: When I was in Australia a couple of years ago I never got to try it. Anyone from Australia that can tell me exactly what it tastes like & how do you eat it, what do you put it on, etc.

Yes, one of my best friends was from Australia and his mother would send Vegemite every month to him. He would eat it for breakfast and snacks. He would spread it on bread and put cheese on it. I didn't like it, but he lived on the stuff.

It tasted like a slightly sweet beef stock to me.

veggie what???

It is just like that stuff the Brits consume. As a US of A'r I was introduced to both through some international students that have worked for me at a camp in America. Can't remember the Brit name but I think you know what I mean.

Yes. It claims to be yeast extract, whatever that is. It tastes like beef bouillon, and spreads like peanut butter. However, don't be lulled into believing that you can eat it like peanut butter by its texture. It is powerful. Aussies spread a thin coat on their toast and wash it down with tea.

blech.. it tastes bad and it smells even worse

Nicer than Marmite with no after taste. Yum!

Yes, it is an aquired taste though. You might have to get used to it.

yes and the mites make it extremely crunchy
