Do canned mandarin oranges (rinsed and drained) have the same health benefits as regular oranges?!


Question: My husband says no, but I'm not sure. Since the nutrition info on the can isn't very expansive I'm not sure what to think.

No...The canning process adds sugar and salt and reduces the amount of fiber. Also, heat and storage both destoy vitamin C. So you are better off with the fresh product.

Basically they will be similar but canned usually has an added syrup to it and because they have been processed, will have lost some of their nutrients.

Fresh is better.
