I need to know how to make 3 gallons of sweet tea?!
Answers: I am having a reunion this Saturday and I really need to know how many Large Size tea bags it would take to make 3 to 4 gallons of tea. I also need to know how much sugar would need to be put in this tea for SOUTHERNERS! They like it SWEET! please help if you can .
Well, I just checked out my Lipton Iced Tea Box and it said to use 2 large tea bags per 2 quarts of iced tea, so with that, lets say about 4 bags per gallon, so you would need 16 bags for 4 gallons of Iced Tea. Southeners DO like their tea sweet, so I would suggest 1 cup of sugar per gallon, so lets say 4 cups, but I would go 3. AND, lots of lemons, don't forget those..........I would use about 10 for 4 gallons, softly rolled and pressed, cut in half and put right into the pot, pitchers or whatever container you're considering using for this massive Treat!!!!!!! Hope this helps you with your Iced Tea making for your reunion!

I LOVE sweet tea!!!! I make it homemade, but usually only 1 quart at a time, and with small tea bags. I'll tell you what I do, and you can adjust how you need to for 3-4 gallons.
I boil water in a saucepan, and add 10 small tea bags when it comes to a boil. In the meantime, I take a tray of ice cubes and put it in a quart sized pitcher with 1 cup of sugar poured over the ice cubes. I let the tea boil for about 5-10 minutes (the longer you let it boil, the stronger it will be.) When done, take out the tea bags and pour the tea over the ice. Fill the rest of the pitcher with cold water. Stir and put in fridge until ready to use. Enjoy!!
You can use large tea bags but I would use 2 or 3 for every quart to make the strong tea flavor. (Usually it calls for 1 for every quart but I don't find it to be strong enough.) Test it out first if you're not sure how it will come out, since you have time.
Also, you can offer lemon on the side, but usually lemon is not typically in sweet tea, as far as I know.
Good luck!!!
i would put 5 large teabags in and a coffee cup full of sugar for every gallon you are making this should make it plenty sweet enough for your southern family.
