If ketchup is good on fries, why isn't it good on mashed potatoes?!

Question: It isn't?
Seriously, I thinks it's because mashed potatoes are usually so rich with butter, milk, cream, etc. that they just don't need a sweet red condiment. Also, mashers are soft, ketchup is soft, no textural variation
Fries, on the other hand are crispy and salty. ketchup compliments them pretty well, but not as good as aioli!

I had a friend in highschool that actually ate ketchup on mashed potatoes! Maybe because french fries are fried and salty?

Really? I never eat ketchup with fries, but a couple of my family members eat it with both fries and mashed potatoes.

it is good on mashed potatoes!!!
ketchup is good on everything =)

because fries and mashed potatoes taste different.
that mighttt be why (: lol

it could be down to the contrast of textures between potato fries and ketchup. that between ketchup and mash is too similar.

It could be due to the different textures or due to the amount of oil in fries.

I haven't tried, it but it just might be. You don't know until you try it. I like maple syrup on fried potatoes, and Miracle Whip on fried potatoes as well.

who said it's not? I like it on potatoes. and eggs.
