Could I reuse 1 litre milk Tetra-Paks?!
Answers: I've just started making my own yoghurt and probiotic yoghurt drinks - as I use up a litre of milk every time I make a new batch, I was wondering about then using the carton to store 1 litre of fresh-made yoghurt smoothie. Would this be unsanitary, or, as I'd be using it within 24 hours of emptying it, would it be OK? Was just thinking of filling the empties with boiling water, shaking to clean and storing empty in the fridge until I use them the next day. (Trying to cut down on our waste output).
Tetra paks are recyclable, but not re-useable. If you try and store other things in you are risking the real danger of other things getting contaminated.
I use plastic milk bottles when I need new storage, rinse out, and put in sterilising fluid for baby bottles. Dry well.
I admire your ethic though.
You could do that - avoid the boiling water though as it may do something to the tetra pak, however, why don't you buy a jug for the smoothie and recycle the tetra pak as I assume you will be throwing it away eventually?
If you put the liter container in the fridge, it will be fine overnight even without cleaning, and the traces of milk shouldn't hurt your yogurt at all. In fact, probably even if you didn't put it in the fridge it would be ok. The yogurt will go bad before the traces of milk (and the cultures in the yogurt will probably turn the traces of milk to yogurt too, if you don't eat it so fast.
