What misunderstandings did you once have about certain foods?!
Answers: i just saw a question someone asked about how people could eat cotton candy if it was cotton. Did you ever think something was something it wasn't? I remember people saying cheesecake was good & I imagined they were eating the kind of cheese I had on a sandwich so I wouldn't try it. My mother-in-law thought immatation crab was something immatation but didn't know it was just fish. Tell your stories of discovery something about food.
I can't really recall many of my own, but I know that MOST westerners seem to think that "sushi" means "raw fish" when in fact, it's only associated with raw fish since that's a common ingredient to serve with it. Sushi is a way of preparing rice with vinegar. You can put virtually anything in it raw or cooked-- it's still sushi. Sashimi is actually raw fish.
Yes-- tomatoes are fruit. Most people seem to get this now but they miss that ALL plant ovaries, or seed bearing parts are fruit-- tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, peppers, eggplants, etc.. Everything else, roots, stems, leaves, etc. are vegetables.
I occasionally run into someone who thinks "dolphin fish", or "mahi mahi" is the mammal. No one in western cultures eats dolphins. That's like eating horses or dogs.

I thought tomatoes were a vegetable. Then I was told it was a fruit... or is it?
I thought that burdock was some sort of plant youd use for a magic spell, and never wanted to try it.. then one day I discovered I have been eating it regularly and knew it only by its Japanese name, "gobo"! Turns out I love burdock.
When I was a kid I thought those Kraft singles were real cheese.
I use to think Crisco(vetgable shortening) was good to eat, so I took a big spoonful of it and ate it. That was the last time I ever ate something that I didn't know what it was.
