What do you put in your hummus and what do you eat it with?!
Answers: I make mine with a can of chickpeas, some of the liquid that comes from the can, dash of salt, lemon juice, paprika, chilipowder, and a blob of peanut butter. I like to eat it with crackers :)
Sorry but hummus is not Isreali it is actually Lebanese food...
I am lebanese and my grandmothers recipe is straight from lebanon, so here it is...
200 g chickpeas, precooked
1/3 cup tahini
3 whole lemons, juice of
100 ml olive oil
2 garlic cloves
salt & fresh ground pepper
1) Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor.
2) Blend into a smooth, creamy paste.
3) Taste and add more lemon juice or salt to suit your taste.
4) It should be the creamy consistency of mashed potatoes.
5) Thin with additional lemon juice, chick pea liquid or water if necessary.
6) Scrape into an attractive looking bowl.
7) Drizzle oil over the surface in a decorative pattern.
Serve it with wedges of pita bread (either soft or fried like chips) and raw vegetables.
Now that is some good hummus!!!
I made mine with chickpeas, pepper, garlic and added some greek salad dressing to make it smooth.
Served it with Pita chips.
I eat it with garlic, olive oil and paprika. I usually will tear a pita or flat bread in to pieces and dip it or some good crackers.
I love mine with pita chips and fresh veggies but honestly, my favorite is with some great crusty bread and some olives on the side! When I make hummus I really love to do it up...I love the tahini in this and this is the recipe that I use...
2 cups drained well-cooked or canned chickpeas, liquid reserved
1/2 cup tahini (sesame paste), optional, with some of its oil
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil, plus oil for drizzling
2 cloves garlic, peeled, or to taste
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
1 tablespoon ground cumin or paprika, or to taste, plus a sprinkling for garnish
Juice of 1 lemon, plus more as needed
Chopped fresh parsley leaves for garnish
1. Put everything except the parsley in a food processor and begin to process; add the chickpea liquid or water as needed to allow the machine to produce a smooth puree.
2. Taste and adjust the seasoning (I often find I like to add much more lemon juice). Serve, drizzled with the olive oil and sprinkled with a bit more cumin or paprika and some parsley.
u eat it with pita bread its israeli !
just the general ingredients, i like mine with flax chips, or carrots, ooh and pita bread
I enjoy it with crackers, particularly Vinta. The bold taste compliments the hummus flavor, and it's hearty consistency holds up to even the thickest dips.
Pita chips are great also.
Lastly, I use hummus as a spread in my cold cut sandwiches as a low-fat alternative to mayonnaise.
