Is the food fresh in a Chinese Restaurant?!
If it matters I am from Mass, and we have alot of chinese places around. If anyone knows it would be interesting to find out. No reason to spend $50 on take out if someone if just tossing it in a microwave.
Answers: I was just recently told that all chinese food restaurants do not prepare any fresh food or dishes. They all get it from same supplier and they just get boxes of frozen food, and just re heat it when ordered. I do enjoy getting chinese food but this would be a HUGE disappointment if the people in the kichen are just boiling water and using a microwave. Just for an example, the egg rolls, the chicken fingers, peking raviolis etc.

If you get a family own location and not a chain they are great, I have a few around my house. I think everyone is into short cuts now a days. Maybe try a few different places and see if there is a better, more fresher restaurant.

chinese restuarants have such an extensive menu...it would be impossible to have all of their food fresh...so like most places - they have to have a frozen supply in the freezer which they will cook on demand.
...but saying that - it doesnt change the fact that chinese food is SO good when you are hungry!!
You seriously think ALL Chinese food places are the same? Odd, that.
On a side note:
Olive Garden microwaves most of their entrees of course they are a chain restaurant.

That's not very wise to classify "all" restaurants based on the practices of a few.
I live in Texas and there are LOTS of Asian restaurants around my area that prepare all of their dishes fresh when you order them.
I would just do a little research on your town's eateries before dropping money on food that you think may have come from a box rather than a produce/meat market.
truthfully, most restuarants with large menus use a lot of frozen items. Especially corporate chains like Chilis. It's more cost effective to use frozen or pre-made food items because it cuts down on wasted or spoiled food. Plus buying it in bulk is cheaper than having to go to the store every day to stock your restaurant. your best bet is to go to restaurants that have a limited menu.

Are you that gullible?! I worked for a locally owned Chinese restaurant, the chef was a 5 star Navy chef retired. He prepared all his items fresh. (If they only have shrimp egg rolls, those are probably frozen and shipped to them.) If you are going to one of the many "chain" Chinese places, you might be getting frozen stuff.
Don't categorize all places from the few that do that.
I am not too sure but I am sure some things are fresh and some frozen that would be standard.
What I don't get is the attitude you are getting from people. You said you were told by another person that ALL chinese places did this. You also said you were talking about your area. You said nothing of every restaurant in the US. And really if they are not making it fresh then why not have some blonde hair blue eyed dude serve it. Then you would know it is not fresh made chinese food.
This is why this answer section is useless at times, when complete idiots get on here. I really think alot of people have terrible miserable lives then they come on and take it out on an honest answer. People get a Life.
Hey sorry about the comments you are getting. I do think it is 50-50, if you are lucky you might get one that prepares the stuff themselves, I know in my area that is rare, people have really became lazy.
I think I should apply for a chef's job I know how to use a microwave. Sad to hear the olive garden and chili's do this also.

I just noticed the guilible and dumb comment. I think a few people need to get reported. Enjoy your comments, maybe you should be tending to all your kids instead of staying stupid comments? What comes around goes around, and it normally comes back alot harsher.
