How much fibre are we supposed to consume per day?!
Answers: How much fibre are we supposed to consume per day?
Last I heard, there are no set hard and fast guidlines about fiber, I believe it is suggested to have atleast 25 grams of fiber a day.
Generally, a person should consume 1 gram of fiber for every 100 calories or approximately 25 grams of fiber per day. Persons with reduced food intake, say 1200 calories, should aim for at least 15 grams of fiber as the average American only eats 12 grams per day. No, children do not need the same amount of fiber as adult; they need fewer fibers and fewer calories until they reach adolescence. The Food Guide Pyramid recommends enough fruit, vegetable and grain servings to meet a person's fiber requirements if a variety of raw and whole grain foods are eaten.
Enough to keep you regular.
30 g per day is the recommended amount of fibre.
Most people don't manage it, yet it's not difficult - one wholemeal bread roll (the size of a hamburger bun or similar) is 15 g of fiber, so have one for lunch every day and you've already had half your intake.
You can also add psyllium fibre to your food - one teaspoon is equal to 4 g of fibre, and 2 teaspoons a day is the recommended maximum. Do that, and you've got another 8 g of fibre every day without eating anything extra.
3 prunes have 3 g of fibre - a very small snack with lots of fibre.
