Another Marmite Question. Can you buy marmite in the US?!

Question: Or do they have their own equivalent, like Australian vegemite?

Answers: Or do they have their own equivalent, like Australian vegemite?

No, Americans don't have an equivalent to marmite - take some with you if you think you will miss it.

If you are staying long term, most American supermarkets will try to find an import source, so take a label, or jar with manufacturing information, to the customer service counter and ask them to get it for you. And of course you will pay more than at home - it has to make the flight over too!

Years ago, on a trip to the Colorado mountains, I stopped in a at small town supermarket and found Marmite, Vegemite, Christmas pudding and Branson pickles in the speciality food section. Americans are friendly and helpful and will stock whatever you ask for - they aim to please every taste - that is why the shopping there is always so much fun.

By the way, be prepared to eat what is available, which is a diverse selection just like the population. But don't go there if you think you have to have curry, kebab or yorkshire pudding - it is unlikely you will find them in small towns. Instead look for places that have salad bars and offer dishes made with fresh local produce.

Half the fun of travellings to foreign places is trying local dishes!

You can get both at World Market.

You can but it is not easy to find. You'll have to find a market that imports and will probably have to overpay for it.

actually I have noticed *both* at my local grocery store in the international aisle..right next to the barley water *gag* and Heinz canned spaghetti..yuck..oh and spotted dick..seriously that's what its called..spotted dick..hmm..wonder what that is..marmite and vegemite..sounds like a couple of kooky superheroes
