Is it a good idea to freeze soup in an empty Hellman's jar?!
Answers: I have just made a large amount of soup and want to freeze some. If not in a jar, what would be a good way to freeze it?
dont think glass jars would be a good idea to use in your freezer, i save empty margarine tubs and they take just enough for one portion at the time, also easy to take the frozen soup out, just hold it under the tap with warm water, it will take more work with a jar and you risk it might break and spoil your food
No, get some freezer bags, put a single portion in each. They store flat which is an advantage. The glass is liable to shatter ruining everything.
a jar will work just dont fill to the top as the expansion will break the jar. i freeze soup in zip lock or other freezer bags.
It's ok to use it as long as it's been cleaned well and you leave some space for the liquid to expand as it freezes.
Arent those jars made of glass? If you freeze soup inside that the soup, like any liquid will expand when its frozen and the glass will break. Try using something plastic.
To be honest I wouldn't.
That could be dangerous, doesn't liquid expand when frozen.
I'm wondering if this is a joke question, if it isn't I apologise, and aahh bless your cottons!
Definately not a good idea to freeze anything in a glass container, as it is likely to crack at some point, if not in the freezer, then after you have taken it out, Try to find a plastic container with a lid, or something plastic you can use as a lid, or cover with tin foil, if no tin foil, put container in a plastic bag. If you have none of these things, then I am too lost for ideas! Hope thats of some use!
I have used mayo jars for over 35 years and never had a problem with them, they were very well,
just one note, don't fill it all the way to top, leave a small space as when it freezes it with expand and if full it will crack the jar, so leave small space and never have a problem,.
I wouldnt use glass in a freezer. I use freezer bags in a plastic container, then remove from container when frozen. Saves space
