Question: please intelligent answers only

Answers: please intelligent answers only

It should sound hollow when you knock on it AND you should look for "sugar marks" those goldish-brown stretch mark looking things......that means SWEET.

The heavier the better! Means it's juicy and delicious.

thump or tap on it
It should sound hollow

flick it and make sure it sounds hollow

Slap it open-handed. If the sound is deep and sonorous, it's probably ripe.

Of course, in all civilized countries (read: Hungary) the seller will offer you a small tasting core so you can check properly.

The stem will be brown and shriveled, there will be a yellow patch on the bottom, it will make a hollow sound when thumped, and it will be heavy for it's size.
