Europe's equivalent to USDA?!

Question: Does anyone know if EU countries have any sort of certification for "organic" foods that's similar to our USDA?

Answers: Does anyone know if EU countries have any sort of certification for "organic" foods that's similar to our USDA?

in the UK it is the Soil Association (http://www.soilassociation.org) for the rest of Europe it is IFOAM (http://www.ifoam.org)

The USDA organic standards were created in part so there would be a US standard that was as good as the European standard which predates the USDA organics by about 20 years. this now allows all certified organic farms the option of international trade. before the USDA regs only 4 or 5 US organic certifying bodies did international organic certification

What can be labelled organic is different in different EU countries. There is no cross-European standard.
