Why do pittas have to be eaten within 24 hours of opening the packet?!
Answers: Other products, including bagels, wraps and bread can be eaten in a few days so why do pittas have such a short shelf life once opened? Is it that they're harmful or more because they go hard and just don't taste as good once the air reaches them? It would be great if someone could tell me.
They dry very fast and end tasting like cardboard. I wrap mine very tightly with cling film and make them last an extra couple of days, but that's about it.
They don't have any preservatives in and go rock hard after they've been opened a few hours.
they'll go stale
They do? Oh that explains a few bad stomachs, then!
I didn't know that. I don't use them within 24 hours and they don't seem to have done me any harm.
Because they get really REALLY hard if you dont eat them right away.......
wrap them in a lightly damp kitchen towel and put them in a cool dry place. then when ready to eat them, place in the microwave for 10 seconds... they will taste like you just bought them.
tip: if you buy pita from ethnic stores, they will last longer.. they are made by the pros and the quality is better.
if you are buying at a local super market.. then the answer above should help. :)
