What are some ethnic foods that you were raised on is now so americanized?!

Question: I grew up in France and croissants are very comon for breakfast ... but we don't make sandwiches out of them, just eat them plain or with jam. I was surprised when I came here to see them stuffed with cheese and ham.

I think grits was once a very Southern dish only served with breakfast. Now you see it often, dressed up with cheeses, etc. and often served as a side dish with seafood dishes.

Bubble and squeak has been replaced by hash browns. Proper scoop ice cream has disappeared from ice-cream vans and been replaced by that awful Mr Whippy type stuff. Big chunky chips (french fries) have been replaced by fatty, salty matchsticks. And then there are the fast food chain outlets... Pushed out our "ethnic" independent (usually family-run) fish and chip shops! I cannot bering myself to mention the Mc word, but it is not the only hateful example... No wonder practically everyone is obese!
