What is the nutritional value of romaine lettuce vs. regular lettuce or other types of lettuce?!


Question: The darker the leaves (i.e. romaine lettuce, leaf lettuce, etc.) the more nutrients; the paler they are then they have less. They all have fiber but the darker vegetables and fruits are, the more nutritional value they have.

A single serving of Romaine lettuce (about 3 ounces or a little less than 2 cups) contains:

100% of your daily requirement of Vitamin A
34% of your daily requirement of Vitamin C
2g of fiber

Iceberg has 9% of your required Vitamin A, 4% Vitamin C and 1g of fiber.

Darker green vegetables are said to contain more nutrients, but I can't give specifics. I never eat iceberg lettuce. My preference is spinach, but romaine is OK too.

I've heard iceberg has very, almost nil nutritional value. The value it does have is water, in a digestible form. Which is supposedly much better absorption than a glass of...

I look for the heaviest iceberg head as a result.

Romaine is better anyway. And green leaf is probably my fave.

yes .. the darker the color, the more nutrients. So, Romaine has, comparatively, more nutrients than iceburg or Boston/bibb... but Spinach is obviously the best of all. Lettuce, in general, isn't the most nutritious vegetable, but you can add tomatoes, shredded carrots, some darker greens, alfalfa sprouts, to up the nutrients....
