Are Ball jars (and mason jars in general) dishwasher safe?!

Question: I'm assuming that they can withstand the high heat of the dishwasher, since they are used with boiling water for canning . But I haven't been able to find anything that tells me one way or the other. At homecanning.com, the Ball people go out of their way to point out that their plastic freezer jars are dishwasher safe, but make no mention of whether of their glass jars are.

Yes they are. You can also sterilize the jars before use by using the sanitize (or high heat setting) cycle on the dishwasher. Just be sure not to add any detergent.

Yes the glass jars are completely dishwasher safe.

Definitely, don't hesitate to pop them in.

All I know for sure is that I put one in the dishwaher once and it cracked. So I am going to have to say NO they are not dishwaher safe.

yes, we use them for drinking glasses

Yes they are. I even use it to sterilize some jars for certain pickles and have never had any problems.
