Is it true?? 10 points!!?!

Question: My mom told me if you leave a metal container open in the friedge, if it has a liquid in it it is poisonous for you. I left a can of vanilla shake in the fridge and she stopped me from drinking it by telling me this. she didn't drink it so she wasn't making it up so she can have it. If you can answer this and tell me why i'll give you ten and a thumbs up. as many as i can.

I think that this may have come from the older style of can that had a lead soldered seam. If you left an acidic substance in the can for too long the acid would put a certain amount of lead into suspension.

tell your mom to stay off the drugs

no, thats bs. lol.

No it isnt true, she is just making it up. I have left a can on Mountain Dew in the fridge and the next day i took it out and drank it and nothing bad happen to me. No worries.

never heard that. I wouldn't leave it more than a few days though, or it would taste metallic, and bacteria may begin to grow where the rest of the contents were touching the can .... where did your mom hear that?

Yes it is realy true, i have heard of that to! belive it.

I don't know about the poison part but I do know that storing anything in a metal container in the fridge makes it taste different and to me it tastes bad. So I guess I agree with mom because I wouldn't let my kid drink it.

thats not true, kid

Your mom is right to an extent. Your not supposed to store an opened can in the fridge..something about the metal interacting with the food...I learned this from my mom too...You can get sick.

Not true, she's pulling your leg or she was led to believe it herself.

no no no no no how can that happen?????????

you're mom's full of it.

You have an old-fashioned over-protective Mum. Keep her.
When tin-cans were invented this was a problem.
Acid in the contents would attack the metal.
Oxygen also encourages bacteria to grow.
Today, they are coated inside with a plastic film.
It can still happen, if cans get dented.

No its not poisinous but again its not healthy for you. The bacterias that can form on the can can get inside the container and contaminate the whole thing THAT would be the only thing that would make it unsafe to your health.

If this were the 50's I'd say your mom is right. Lead to seal the cans had a bad effect on food. Some cans today have plastic liners in them. Your safe to use the product in the can since they don't use lead in packaging

My mom has always told me this as well so I never do it. However I know that soda cans are not the sames as like a can of peaches or sauce stuff like that. different medals so as far as I know soda cans are safe to store open in the fridge

you will not get poisoned.the food may taste funny cause of the metal and the cold..that's an old wives tale

Cans used to be steel and soldered at the seams and once air got into them they could go bad and make you very sick. But now cans are either made of aluminum or have an inner coating of aluminum and that is no longer a problem. (My mom used to tell me that all the time when I was little and it made me scared to eat anything that came from a can!)
