Can anyone else taste the fridge...?!

Question: When i eat butter or margarine from the fridge sometimes it tastes like the contents of the fridge- like the taste has been tainted. It drives me mad when im really looking forward to some toast with butter or marg on and it tastes funny. I've asked other people if they can taste it but they think it tastes fine...i think i may have overly sensitive taste buds...or just be a bit mad? Probably the latter...

aha!!! someone else that thinks this!!! I have been telling my boyfriend the same thing but he doesnt believe me!

I have been told that what I need to do is ensure that when I put things in the fridge I ensure that it is wrapped air tight so other things in the fridge with strong aromas do not taint it. apparently things like dairy products can absorb the "taint" of other strong smelling things like ginger or curry or even fruit and veg, the result is a mixure of different tastes and smells that makes it taste "off". Im told this is the reason that chocolate boxes have the orange and strawberry flavoured chocs wrapped in tin foil to stop it from infecting other milder flavours.

I know exactly what you mean! I hate having the taste of weird things that other people in my family keep in the fridge on my food. I don't know why this happens. But I have given up on keeping things in there now, I just throw them away or let someone else have them.

try putting a peeled onoin in the fridge it will keep it odour free may stop your marge tasting funny too

Yep, you're barking!

yes i get the same thing and really i dont think theres anythnig you can do except to make sure that you dont keep things that could be absorbed into the butter next to it ex. onions

LOL

I thought i was the only one to ever say, "this tastes like fridge."

No u arent the only one.

Ever eaten anything that tastes like a smell?? I think Mango's taste like pine cones smell.

Put a box of opened baking soda in the fridge to absorb all bad odors.

Clean the inside of your fridge more often! Use warm water with a bit of washing up liquid and a clean sponge or cloth. Then leave the door open to dry it out for an hour or so.

That's why I keep two open boxes of baking soda in the fridge. It will absorb any odors.

butter absorbs the odors around it, so when ur keeping it with strong smelling things, i.e. garlic or onins, it will absorb those attributes. keeping an open bow of baking soda in the fridge will help remove the odors, or u could just keep the butter in a ziploc bag

hey bbz! i have same problem to b honest lol...but not lately as i use red hot soapy water and wash all the fringe with a sponge and make sure i get all the bacteria and any left bits in there.make sure that all meat and cheeses etc are wraped up or in cling film and any food that has been open for more than 3 days is chucked away...if you put any baking soda or citrusy things in it may leave marks or even stain your fringe plus things like that can only get rid of food odours for a little bit so you might aswell just keep it clean :) *some ppl dont even realise how dirty fringes are honey! i clean mine at least ever two wks now :)* mwah luv Emz xxx

All you need to do is make sure everything you put in the fridge is covered and/or wrapped tightly. It's very easy to taint the taste of other food by leaving foods unwrapped in the fridge. Some foods absorb flavours easier than others... mostly dairy foods.

Classic is when we had a dinner party and I left my strawberry cream pie in the fridge along with a bowl of spicey couscous. The pie tasted horrible!
