I ate about an hour before going to sleep, will that cause me to gain fat?!
Answers: I ate 2 pieces of toast with jam, a cup of milk, a cup of yogurt and a banana about an hour before going to sleep, will that cause me to gain fat? I am 17 years old, male by the way.
As a matter of fact, I have read that this is actually just a myth. Let me see if i can find the website I read.
Edit:
I couldnt find the exact site, but here is the jist.

It basically states that calories are cumulative. And although you ARE more active during the day, in total you burn a certain amount of calories/day and it doesnt matter what time you consume these calories. Your body does not stop burning calories while you sleep. You are constantly burning calories. Activity though, obviously will increase the quantity of calories being burned.
Note, I am not at all an expert on this. I just wanted to point out what alternate information is out there about this issue. Most people still beleive that you will gain weight by eating before bed. To be honest, I always eat before bed. I am maybe 10 pounds heavier than I would like to be, but its not like i'm over weight because of eating at night. I also eat ALOT of chocolate.. hehe...
Hope this helps.
yes very very little...but if you do this over a long period of time it adds up
Yes i am living proof. I have a hard time going to sleep when i'm hungry, and so i eat before going to sleep after dinner- lets just say you don't wanna keep it up. Believe me it DOES add up! Plus your liver uses your sleep to cleanse itself, and it has a hard time doing so with your gut full of bananas!
It does over time, but you can do it every now and again. There are times when I can't sleep because my stomach won't shut up, so I eat. I don't seem to gain weight doing this sometimes. My way of looking at is if your body is hungry eat and if its tired sleep. And yes I'm close to your age and I'm in very good shape. I wouldn't worry as long as its not a habit.
If your body is not used to eating at night then yes you may put on a few pounds..but if you work at night then no you shouldn't..some people have grave yard shifts and every night..it depends on what time you go to sleep..rule of thumb don't eat anything at least five hours before going to sleep.
