I did purchase a set of Ronco knives a while back. I wasn't expecting much, But they we're alot better than I expected. They do cut through the cardboard/soda can/leather (at the expense of my old shoe) and some other stuff I was curious with.

Anyways DO NOT soak them in water. The only downfall is they WILL rust if they are soaked for a while. This is happening with a couple knives that I soaked for like a week. They ARE worth it, Just don't cut crazy things or soak them in water and you'll be fine and they will last a while.

the ginsu knifes really work

They are cheap, and not worth it. Buy one set of decent knives, take care of them and they should last more than a lifetime.

I can't say for all knives but...

my mother's ex-boyfriend did a commercial for one of those years ago. He told me that the food was presliced and he was instructed to use one hand to hold the meat/vegetables together and only pretend to cut the food, allowing for the 'ease' with which you see the roasts etc. being cut.

There probably are some products out there that do really work! But I would definitely say that it's best to invest in a set of knives you can see a real life demonstration of, or at least see in person. That way you know it won't be a sham!
Good luck :]

Its a salesman patter i never believe what they say on the TV if they were that good they wouldn't need to put that across.
