Self service checkout at tesco etc?!
They just do not work.
Answers: Does anyone else have a burning hatered of these things?
They just do not work.
When I first heard of them I thought it great. The first time I used one, I thought great. But now our stores have them, I have learned to loathe the things!
Why?
1. That Voice! If only they had a button to kill the voice - some of us customers know what they are doing by now, plus most of the population can read!
2. Change. Why, oh why, do they only ever dispense change in the smallest form? Like if you get 4p change, you never get 2x2p always in 1ps.
3. Packing. Unless you get only 1 item, then the following customer will start thier shopping before you have finished packing. There are never decent separating bars - ours have them, but they are installed backwards!
Loads of other minor niggles, too - some things too light so have to wait for assistance, not accepting money.
There can be a plus - someone can leave change, so that's a bonus, sometimes the machine chucks out an extra 20p, too.
But, they should be scrapped. Plus, it is doing someone out a job!
i love doing self service it is one way of cutting down on crewing in the queue
You must have been to a crap tesco coz all the ones I been to have been working. I love them they're quick and easy and you dont have to make small talk with the assistant!!
Im sure if i went to one that was broken then it would bug me.
Me too!
Why do it yourself when there's somebody there to do it for you. From what I've seen self service is invariably slower that the other queues.
I've never had any problem with them, i always use the one in Asda if i am only buying a few items. It annoys me when it comes up saying approval required for alcohol etc and the assistant is too busy chatting to her friends to notice! Apart from that though i think they're a great idea!
lol theyre meant to speed things up but they do the exact opposite
dont even bother buying beer, they take an hour to decide how old you are
they must be female lol
My lad works for Tesco and he has a staff card we go to the staff till its quicker and more convenient,
I love it, it takes less time if you are only picking up a few items
no i think there great
They are great, in time all stores will be self service with 1 member of staff looking after 2or3 checkouts, so you better have more practise.....lol
its a pain when they dont work but generally i like them
Sometimes they are ok, I hate it when you go to the tiny self serve & you dont put the stuff in the bag quick enough, or you put your purse down & it says foreign object, please remove from bagging area, then you have to start again , but what I hate most is they have got rid of the conveyer belt now after they scan the items on the bigger ones, & you are stood at the bottom of the counter, & the assistant will not push the stuff down to you , you have to keep stretching, for it, & they just watch you,
I just hate supermarkets!
I'd like to live in France where, like most european countries, you buy fresh each day at the market, and straight from the local farm and it's far cheaper than Tesco, Sainsbury, et al.
Sorry about your experience - mine is the best thing to happen to Hells Market since BOGOF!
I love it ........... don't have to be asked "Are y'alrite packin'" as though they cared! NOT!
They tend to work OK for a few small items, or if there are 2 of you to pack, but otherwise they do take longer.
AAAAHHHH!!
I hate them too! sometimes theyre fine, but mostly they are pure crap!
I love them, rarely have problems, and am always bemused to see other customers getting themselves in a total rage - I can never work out what they can be doing wrong.
My favourite is Waitrose - they have hand-held scanners you go can round with. They are totally fantastic and never go wrong.
