Is pizza really considered junk?!
what makes it so!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
Most of our "fast" foods are considered junk foods just because they are almost immediately edible!.
I see nothing at all with most of the foods labeled "junk" or "fast"!! First of all, it is good food, USDA inspected ingredients!. There are usually about 1/3 each of the necessary protein, fat, and carbohydrate calories in each of these foods!.
Pizza crust is equivalent to 2 slices of bread for a sandwich, tightly compressed!. Then there is the sauce! Mostly tomato which contains loads of good vitamins and minerals and helps with good blood pressures!. Then there are meats and veggies!! Yes, onion is a veggie! Mozzerella is not a highly fatty cheese!! It is a cheese made to a certain standard of milk fats!. As such is much better for you than a candy bar which has about the same amount of fats as the average 2 slices of pizza!.
If you add an apple to 2 slices of pizza, you will have a complete meal as proposed by the new food pyramid!. What is unhealthy or junky about that!? Nothing!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't think Italians consider it so!. It all depends upon the ingredients and how much of it you eatWww@FoodAQ@Com
Commercially prepared, it is not the healthiest because of the questionable ingredients used like high fat cheeses and sausage/pepperoni and salty sauces!. Home made pizza with freshly prepared dough (no preservatives) etc!. gives you better control of the ingredients used!.

It's lack of nutritional value and deliciousness!.
It might be the calorie count that makes it junk actually!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you control the amount or type of cheese, it's good for you!. In Italy, less cheese is used than in the USA!. also less sauce much of the time!. Fresh herbs (good for you), fresh veggies (also good for you)!. Especially love the 4 season pizza with tuna fish, corn, veggies, almost no cheese or sauce!. Thin crust also, no where have I ever seen a double thick, stuffed crust in Italy!! Leave it to the Americans to make a great food BAD for you!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

My mother is an RN and during one of her nutrition classes the instructor told them that a Supreme Pizza with veggies, meat, cheese, etc!. represents all the food groups!.
That isn't to say that you will be healthy if you eat it every day and of course it doesn't represent 100% of the RDA of all vitamins and minerals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
