Not Sure where to Post this question BUT I'm going to try here!?!
I have an OLD CAST IRON KETTLE, I want to clean it up but don't want to "SEASON IT" as one would for a CAST IRON skillet or a dutch oven, my Tea would end up being greasy!
ANY ONE have any ideas on how to clean it!? or should I use the Four letter word "SOAP" on it and just bite the bullet!?
It is dusty and there is some RUST, but otherwise in good shapeWww@FoodAQ@Com

Mild dish soap is fine!. You might think 'seasoning' means greasy but it doesn't for all cast iron (although constant use of fats and oils in cast iron will add to it's ability not to stick)!. It means being heated to temperatures high enough, constant enough and often enough to retard rusting!.
If you do have some rust spots, use some table salt and a damp sponge to rub on them!. The salt will dissolve slowly and not mar the surface!. This also works for stubborn food particles!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Since you're going to be making tea in it, you obviously don't want it seasoned:) !.!.!. If it were me, I'd ignore all the authorities and just get the darn thing clean! I'd scour it really well, and then boil water in it (to get all the excess dirt out)!. If you get that water hot enough, when you pour the water out, it might even steam itself dry:) !.!.!. otherwise, I'd probably jam a bunch of paper towels in there to absorb the moisture, until it could be dried well with a regular towel!.!.!.!.!.!. I'll probably get a bunch of thumbs down for this, but at least it'd be CLEAN!Www@FoodAQ@Com
When I was a kid my dad would take the iron kettles out side and srub them with sand I dont why but they always look like new when he was done!. dont use soap!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
