Thawing meat?!

Question: Thawing meat!?
How long would you think it should take to thaw a 7 1/2 pound butt!? I've got to have it cooked and cool enough to shred by Friday evening but thats an awful big piece of meat!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Today is only Wednesday!. Take it out tomorrow morning and thaw it all day and then put it in the fridge until Friday morning!. If you put it in the oven around 8 or 9 am on Friday and cook it all day it will be ready to shred early afternoon!. Use the 2 fork method and it will come out awesome! GOOD LUCK!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I hope it's out of the freezer now!
Seriously, slow cook it all day Thursday--cut it in half & put in 2 crockpots if you can, or covered in a 300 oven for 4-5 hours if you'll be at home!.!. Drain off the fat & put in the fridge late Thursday nite, then shred sometime on Friday!.

It's ok if you start it somewhat frozen, just add 1-2 hours to the cook time!. I do recommend the crockpot, though--very simple!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

put it in the refrigerator today and put it in the oven early Friday morning!.if you cook it until falling apart you can shred it warm with the 2 fork method- i actually find it easier to shred it hot!Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can thaw it in the microwave!. You should have a button for defrost!. It probably lets you enter the size of the meat!. For instance, on my microwave I push the button once for 1/2 lb!., twice for 1 lb!., and so on!. If you can cut it in half then you could defrost it in 2 smaller pieces, which would probably work better!. You'll need to watch so it doesn't start cooking on the outside while it's still thawing inside!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Thaw in the sink under cold running water!. It will be thawed out in about two hours!. You want to adjust the drain stoper so that the sink stays filled with water, but does not over flow because of the running water!. You only need a trickle of water from the faucet!. This is the way restaurants do it and it is the method recommended by the health department (in addition to thawing in the fridge)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
