Breaking ASPARAGUS?!

Question: Breaking ASPARAGUS!?
arent yous suppose to snap the asparugus for it can break and the end is the bad part !?!? or something like that!?

why is it bad [THE TIP]Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
the end that snaps of is woodier, stringier and tougher than the other bit that has the tip

you just bend it and where it snaps leaves the freshest bitWww@FoodAQ@Com

the tip is the GOOD part!. The woody stalk - the growing end is the part that is too woody and tough to eat enjoyably!. If you gently bend the stalk it will naturally break at a point between the tough part and the soft part!. Toss or compost the tough part and cook the rest!.

I like to marinate in some olive oil, lemon juice and garlic then broil them until they brown a little and the sugars caramelize!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's the opposite!.!.!. You keep the tips!.!.!.!.

The whole point of breaking it, is so you can see where the good part starts (the tips)!.!.!.

After you break one, line them all up and use the broken one as a guide for where to cut the rest!. & keep the tips!. That's the good part!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes!.!.!. that's the theory!.!.!. the tip is the tender part/good part!.!.!. the part that breaks off towards the other end is the woody, tough part!.

However, I found that you can just cut off 1 to 2 inches from the root-end and you'll be fine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You need to break off the woody (pithy) end close to the ground!. It isn't bad!.!.!.but the texture is nasty!.

If you hold the asparagus in your hand at the root end, it will break at the right place naturally!.

Hope that helps!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can do as you please!. I prefer fat stalks and I always peel them!.

If you prefer to break the stalks you can use the ends in stock water to add flavour even though it's mild!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
