What is it about milk that makes it taste different depending on where it's from?!

Question: What is it about milk that makes it taste different depending on where it's from!?
My random question of the day!. =p

Currently I'm drinking German milk that tastes absolutely creamy and great!.

If I were to drink the American Comissary Milk (which is also produced in Germany), it tastes weird!.

Comissary milk tastes watered down!.
German milk is rich and creamy!.
Both have the same fat content (two percent!.)

So what makes the difference!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
A lot of factors play a role here!. Apart from what people have already said I could list: nutrients (From the hay/grass that the cows/goats eat), sugar, etc!. levels have an effect on the taste!. It's hard to determine what mix will give you what taste!.

I have tried a Polish milk with as little fat as one can get (=P) and it tastes a lot more fat than those boring, Danish 1!.5% fat milk!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The diet of the bovine makes the difference in the milk product along with processing methods and additives!.

Think of human sperm, if the male has a nice natural well-balanced diet, the sperm is a yummy protein shake!.

If the male has a terrible diet it is a yucky protein shake filled with much sodium and chunky!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

GIGO = Garbage in garbage out!.

The quality of the milk depends on the cows that it comes from and what they eat and drink!. Better quality feed makes better tasting milk!.

As for it tasting watered down, that's probably meant to be that way!. I've noticed here that lots of caucasian americans seem to hate richer 'fattier' feeling milk and instead like the 2%/1%/non-fat kinds of milk which are watery!.

Somewhere someone's lying!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I agree with most of the above answers (although I'm not too sure about the human sperm protein shake, eww lol!) I think it's probably just a different manufacturer with different cows, different equipment, different process or ingredients like preservatives that make it taste different!. It's kind of the same with water or juice, they all vary in taste depending on the country of origen!. ~jamiekat :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

European Milk is more creamy than USA milk, I get gas if I drink it!. The USA used to be like that too but changed, Its has something to do with what they feed the cows, Most of the USA cows are on Factory farms while many farms in Europe still have old fashioned farms where the cows roam free!. I think that is betterWww@FoodAQ@Com

Some manufacturers actually freeze the milk to prolong the life of it!. Look for tiny curds on the edges of the glass after you drink!. Some even get thick globs like blood clots floating in them!. It doesn't hurt anything, but it is disgusting!. Avoid those processors!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Processing, type of feed as well as where the feed was grown, breed of cow, weather, season of the year!.!.!. Almost everything can affect the taste of milk, though you wouldn't notice if you were used to the particular type!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

American milk is gross!. They put hormones in the milk to make it last longer!. It is unsafe and not sanitary and could produce weird chemical reactions in your body!. Try milk from titttssssss!Www@FoodAQ@Com

possibly its got something to do with additives for transportation!. also you can buy creamier milks etc that have similar fa contents!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

not too sure!.!.but my guess is it depends on the place where the milk gets pasturized!.!.different methods will make the milk taste different and have different consistenciesWww@FoodAQ@Com

Homogenization and pasturization make the difference!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They're just global milk!. Sometimes different ones do taste weird!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The Cows!?
Im guessin they eat different stufff in different places!?
LolWww@FoodAQ@Com

different feeds and grasses!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Has to do with what they feed the cows!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

2% versus whole
hormones in the cow, etc!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
