Kids with adult taste?!

Question: Kids with adult taste!?
My other question about prior food dislikes made me think about this one!. Before I begin, I would like to say that I'm very happy that she enjoys these foods!.
My daughter (9) has unusual taste in food, according to teachers and her classmates!. They make fun of her at lunch!.
While she does eat the PB&J sandwich, she likes mixing it up a bit!. These are some typical lunches for her:
Liverwurst on rye
Sushi in her icepack (I don't like it myself)
PB&J but with apricot jelly
Leftover pot-roast with carrot-sticks
Today she has turkey sandwich with a dill pickle on rye and (gasp) brokkoli florettes with ranch!.

At home her most requested food is, Asparagus with hollondaise and she would take that to school too, if it where possible!.
She refuses to eat hot dogs and hamburgers from the school lunch menu!.
Who would of thought that her taste in food would cause her problems in school!.
Do you have a child that eats these things or did you do it yourself!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I can definitely relate!.

Last year when I got invited to Sweet 16 parties, I would have the food off of the adult menu!. The teen menu was typical fare--reheated chicken tenders, hot dogs, lumpy hamburgers--completely basic and bland foods!. I personally enjoyed the flounder francaise, tomato and mozzerella salad, roasted new potatoes, and broccoli rabe!.

My mother always introduced me to new foods and cuisines--something many parents do not believe in, or cannot afford!. I am very fortunate in that respect, because now I am 17 years old, and can talk about all different types of cuisines I have enjoyed eating since my formative years!.

And there are added health benefits to eating a wide-variety of foods, so way to go! Your child may be ostracized now, but wait for her peers to catch up!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I ate the exact same way, when I was a kid! And I still do!. Though, I do enjoy "normal" foods, like hotdogs, hamburgers etc!. When I was a kid, asparagus and hollandaise was my fave, pimento loaf and cream cheese sandwiches, c lox, caviar, etc!. She just has good taste!

I never really got made fun of for my taste in food!. !. and hopefully, as she gets older, kids won't mind it so much!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Woah, interesting!. Perhaps some of mommy's rubbed off on her!? Maybe have u asked yourself if you're spoiling her!? That's the first thought that came to my mind!. I mean if you don't feed her "common" kid food, how can she think it's good enough to eat!? Kids aren't stupid!. They also want the best!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

My 10-yr-old grandson's absolute favorite food is TOFU! And he loves broccoli (as do my 4 & 2-yr-old grandkids)!.!.!. My 2-yr!.old granddaughter loves hot salsa & spicy coleslaw (with horseradish)!. She and her 4-yr-old brother also love raw broccoli and cherry tomatoes !.!.!.!.!.!. My daughters (their moms) used to love sandwiches made with leftover caviar (from our parties) and artichokes!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't have a child, but when my sister was younger, her favorite food was calamari, and escargot, I don't believe in certain tastes, I believe that anyone can enjoy whatever food they want to, and not be questioned on it!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Wow!
I would think she's completely cool!.
What's wrong with people having a different taste!?
Uh!.!.!. but yeah I've met people laugh etc at me for eating something "unusual" !. They have no life!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

my niece (2 years old) and my nephew(4 years old) love to eat cucumber and onions pickled in vinegar!Www@FoodAQ@Com

That's good she has those tastes, though, they're much healthier!.

I ate like that when I was younger, still do!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Gee I wish my kids would enjoy such a greaty variety of foods!. GoodworkWww@FoodAQ@Com

I applaud your daughter !!

When I grew up, we ate what Mom MADE!.!. there was no "I don't like that" at our table!. I was shocked by neighbor kids who wouldn't eat veggies, or would ONLY eat certain cuts of meat!. We ate what was on our plate, or we SAT until Mom & Dad were done, then we did the dishes and put OUR uneaten food in the fridge for BREAKFAST (that only happened 3-4 times before we LEARNED)!.

Dad taught us to love pickles, kim-chee, peppers!.!.!. Mom taught us to love chicken livers, brussel sprouts, Borscht!.!.!. Mom also taught all us boys (4) to cook: "American", Swiss-German, Russian, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, Thai (before it was "cool")!.

My Daughters 13 & 18 were raised in a mixed-culture home (German/Scotts/American & Filippino), and they learned to eat everything, and even taught DADDY to eat strange things (the ONLY thing I don't like is "balut")!.

We have a garden/orchard in the Philippines to grow non-local veggies: cucumbers, peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, corn, peaches, apricots, etc!.

Liverwurst is TERRIFIC !! Though MY favorite sandwich is a "Snoopy": Peanut Butter, Bacon, Mayo and Dill slices on wheat toast !!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think that's totally cool! I hope that you'll encourage her in her choices, & it sounds like you do!.

Except for the Sushi, I like her thinking!. (I'm concerned that there's not enough ice packs to keep Sushi safe to eat!.)

School lunches are mostly fillers & unhealthy!. Cheers to her and you for doing something better!

As for anyone making fun of her; that's just wrong! However, it will pass!. She will be STRONGER for it and more able to stand up for her convictions later on!. (I'm thinking of High School & the pressure to conform) As long as it's only words let it go & encourage her to just go with the flow & mainly ignore it!.

If anything, pack extra so that she can offer a taste to the ones who question her choices!Www@FoodAQ@Com

It looks to me that you've raised your munchkin on adult food from the beginning!.

PB&J is okay as far as it goes, but a lot of parents rely on simplistic foods like that, and it makes it more difficult to graduate the child to more sophisticated flavors later!. Like never using babytalk with your toddler, only to discover you later have a 4-yr-old who talks like a 10-yr-old, you've skipped a few unnecessary steps, and are reaping the rewards!.

My kids aren't as advanced foodwise, but I do have a son - 16! - who is an avid cook - he loves doing fish, and what he can wrangle out of orange roughy has to be tasted to be believed!. Too bad I won't eat it for philosophical reasons!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
