What's the best way to store lettuce after bringing it home from the market?!

Question: What's the best way to store lettuce after bringing it home from the market!?
Answers:
Clean lettuce before storing!. Remove core and any wilted outer leaves!. Rinse by holding head cored-end under running tap water allowing water to run all through the head to refresh it!. Turn the lettuce head over and let the water run out!. Store lettuce in plastic bag or airtight container in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks!.

The way we store lettuce in the commercial kitchen and it stays fresh for a long time:
do not remove core, place as is upright (root/core side down) in a plastic container with an inch or less or thereabouts of cold water!. Replace the water every day, and you can shave off a thin slice of the bottom of the core (that would appear brownish)!. This also works for leeks and celery (and with more water, green onions and parsley as well)!.

Edited to add: remove leaves you are going to need for cutting that day/meal obviously)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Wash & dry it good a salad spinner in great for that, anyway store it in a ziplock bag with a damp paper towel on the bottom side!. Don't cut it with a knife it will turn brown fast, tear it! A tupperware keeper is a good way too!. Debbie Myer also make these "green bags" just for veggies they are suppose to keep produce for a couple weeks!.
