This is a global crisis that has hit all countries so much so that the value of money has become much smaller for items like food, raw materials and oil!. We can pray that this current state we are in will not last long and hopefully things will get back to normal!. Everyone suffers!. While there are those who get the necessary aid from social services, there are many more borderline families who do not qualify for assistance!. Yet life has to go on!. The alternative is to look for cheaper alternative brands, look for promotions and discounts and forgo luxury goods that we can just miss for the time being!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A whole series of different factors have come together at the same time!.
Because farmers produced more grain than could be sold in the 1970's, the world price of wheat was held down at around $100 / ton!. The EU stopped farmers from growing wheat on 20% of their land to cut the supply then Australia had several years drought, Africa had floods, Chinese and Indian people started earning more money and eating more wheat based foods and several governments paid their farmers higher prices to grow bio-fuels than wheat!. So there is a slight shortfall in supply and the world wheat price has risen to almost $400/ton!. Then the value of the US dollar fell and the price of oil rose dramatically!. Oh and of course, your friendly local Tesco and Sainsbury made record profits!.
Food prices have been held artificially low for 30 years, but now the brakes have come off!. Its not pretty and its not pleasant, but its world market prices!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, extra cost of fuel these days has led to increased costs for transportation!. And in addition to this, the weather led to quite bad crops in some areas last year and also the increased use of cereals for the production of bio-fuels is pushing up prices of cereals!. There is also a shortage of rice!.!.!.

Its pretty much all going wrong this year in terms of food prices!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because the lousy Labour government have made a hash of our economy!.
Large families will be OK as most of them are living off benefits and cheating the system, but it's people like us that suffer!.
The weather last year, and rising fuel prices / supermarket price fixing are also factors!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

In a nutshell!.!.!.
This is a direct result of!.!.Everyone, WORLD WIDE, buying cheaper products from China!. Which, in turn has FUELED their dynamic 20+% annual growth!. The shift in wealth, so rapidly, has caused a tremendous competition for fuel of all kinds to drive this engine that the world has created in China!. One only has to look at the incredible growth throughout the entire country!. Newest and Tallest buildings, luxury cars, 3 Gorge Dam project, larger homes, etc, etc!.
A similar growth is currently underway in Dubai, UAE
In a nutshell!.!.!.we're not alone in this world anymore!. It's not that there any less oil, it's just that there are people who are willing to pay any price to get it to serve their end means!. Until you and, I stop buying things made in China!.!.We are doomed to this spiral of rapid contusion price increase and, shortages!.
So sorry, You heard it from me!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The cost of transport has risen along with the rise in oil prices, but riding piggy-back on this, the cost of most essentials - flour, meat and poultry, fruit and veg etc have all increased both in-line with and above the normal rate of inflation - PLUS the element which always gets shoved under the carpet by the growers, makers and suppliers!.!.!.!.!. GREED ! ! !Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well when petrol goes up then they put the prices up, my lad works in Tescos, and he dont even get a good discount on his discount card, my hubby shops in Asdas it a bit cheaper, but its still a struggle to get a proper amount of shopping its time the goverment treated us public fair and square!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I pretty much agree with Dream Maker!. Shop around!. Supermarkets have always been expensive for fruit & veg - greengrocers are cheaper!. If you're in a city or large town and there's an Asian or Turkish or Greek area food prices in shops there can be a lot lower than elsewhere!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, everything seems to be put down to the credit crunch, and the soaring cost of fuel!. I know what you mean though!.!.!.I bought a carton of Cravendale milk for £1!.45, two days later, it was £1!.59!.!.!.again, this was at Tesco!.!.!.!.their prices do seem to be rising really fast! Its just a pity that peoples wages don't rise in the same way!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because the price of fuel went up so the transport goes up so the food goes upWww@FoodAQ@Com
