Whatever is on SALE!. My family will get upset at times, but, that's what we eat!. Not that they don't like the stuff on sale, but that they might be wanting something that is not on sale and I won't get it!. That is the only way we can eat good!. Especially now!. With the gas and it's trickling effect on everything costing more!. But what I do, if say hamburger is on sale, don't get just what you need for that week, get as much as you can and stock up!. Or cereal, veggies, what ever it is that is a good sale!. Like chicken noodle soup, I only stock up when it's 3 or 4 for a dollar!. Then I get 2 or 3 cases!. You find that after you do this for a while, you need less and less!. And if something happens when you short for the week, you have stuff to fall back on!. Hope this helps!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Fresh fruits and veggies (look for sale prices)
Yogurt (for snacks and smoothies---look for low sugar but not fake sugar for kids)
Plan a few meals with meat purchases (again sale items)
Cereal (Target is cheapest by far on cereal)
A few frozen meals (healthy ones for when kids just won't eat what you want them to eat--my 9 year old loves Healthy Choice manicotti, those kind of things)
Frozen waffles, english muffins (with a bit of sauce and cheese under broiler makes great pizza snacks and always great for breakfasts)
Eggs--still a bargain and good for many meals
Pasta--buy the higher protein kind, a bit more $$ but much better
Rice--not instant
Oatmeal--same as rice

For my kids (9 and 18) I often think outside the confines of what is a "normal" meal!. Cereal for dinner occasionally is fine, fried egg sandwiches for dinner, even pancakes can be kind of a treat!. I live in Western New York and find Target is a great place to get cheese, milk, waffles, bacon, ice cream etc!.

With the ridiculous price of food you have to plan more and shop more carefully!.!.!.!.especially when you factor in the cost of gas to get you there!.

It's always nice to try and bake a batch of cookies, or some treat with your kids during the week too and don't forget peanut butter (allergies considered) it's fairly cheap and very versatile!.

The more prices go up the less a bargain processed foods are both financially and health wise!. We always get a take out pizza one day a week too and freeze bread, etc when it's on sale to save!.

Other items may include non-stick spray, oils, baking supplies, cleaning supplies (Clorox Greenworks is great and good for everything!), soap!.

I always have a few emergency meals frozen (they don't have to be homemade) and a few meal replacement type bars like Cliff bars for times that things just don't go as planned!.

Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you're looking for snacks for them:
Pretzels, gold fish, snack packs, fruit, jello, pudding, graham crackers kettle popcorn
If you're looking for dinner ideas:
fajtas, tacos, popcorn chicken, soups, chili, steak, chicken (mix italian bread crumbs & parmasian cheese cook on stove until done, one word YUMMY) I make this also with pork chops!. But the chicken is my kids favorite, I use breasts and cut them into tenders!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not all of these things are purchased every single week, I just keep the house pretty stocked with them!. And we switch different things around as produce goes in and out of season!. And my quantities are going to be different because it is just me and my partner!. We spend maybe $70 a week on groceries!.

Stuff I stop in and get once or twice a week:

Salad greens
tomatoes
bell peppers
cucumber
carrots
broccoli
onions
1 or 2 types of fresh fruit -- lately strawberries and pineapple
bread
eggs
yogurt
fish fillets

Stuff I keep stocked up on:
tons of herbs and spices
fresh mozzerella
block of cheddar
pizza dough (kept in freezer)
jars of tomato sauce
dried cranberries (for salads)
diced walnuts (for salads)
mixed nuts (for snacks)
hummus
guacamole (can keep in freezer)
Amy's frozen meals
frozen vegetables
frozen berries
veggie meats
pickles
dressings and condiments
peanut butter
Kashi Go Lean cereal (high fiber/high protein cereal)

So yeah, those are the staples of my diet!. There's obviously a bit more variety but those are the highlights!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
