Scaredy-pants!? !.!.!.!.seriously, though, someone posted a long list of different chicken names for the sizes a few weeks ago - wish I knew where they got it:) !.!.!. I know a tom turkey is larger than a hen turkey:) !.!.!. capons are fairly large and Cornish game hens are small!.!.!. I'm not much help here; sorry:)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Capon, like others have been saying (a neutered male)!.

Hen for a female!. (Pullet is for a young female!.)

Rooster for a male!. (Cockerel for a young male!.)

I would say the other name for a rooster, but that would probably be deleted by Y!A!.

You put this in Food, so I'm assuming that you're also referring to dead chickens!. In that case, I've mainly heard "roast!."Www@FoodAQ@Com

Chicken usually means a pullet, a HEN or female!.!.!.!.!.!.!.

Capons are castrated roosters (males, or in this case, ex-males)

Roasting Hen
Stewing Hen

Those are the two that we use the most when describing an older age fowl that is over 6 pounds!.!.!.!.!.!.

You can't get capons any more!. They used to give them jolts in the head, which would make them them eat and eat and eat so they got huge, and the RSPCA stopped it, and rightly so!.

Mind you, they tasted great!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Capons are males that have been neutered and grown into huge birds!.
