I know it'll sound silly, but the way to wash a grater is putting it upsidedown and using the scorer from top to bottom all the time, but for the nastiest ones, the ones where the holes look like they were made by punching with a nail, use a toothbrush, I found it's the most effective method and it doesn't shred your fingers of your scourers to ribbons :-)
And don't forget cleaning inside if it's the tubular sort, lots of people forget and causes food poisoning!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I haven't used one in years, but you can soak it in really really hot water then squirt it with the vegetable sprayer thing if you have one!. The pressure will usually get the stuff you softened up with hot water off it!. You can also just put it in the dishwasher (again, assuming you have one) and that will take care of it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
no worries
simply take a neat cloth which is smooth as well as slightly thick!.
then start with blades taking care that u dont injure ur fingers by carefully rinsing the cheese stuck to it!. Just go perpendicular to the blades!.
Then moving the grater upside down u can clean the holes by tiny brushes available in markets easily bcoz cloth cannot clean the holes with much ease!. also for holes u can use scrubs which will also be good for safety measures!.
once u have all these items u by yourself will know how to clean it!.
so dont worry u can do it but remember prevention is better than cure!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The best thing to do is to clean it right away, before stuff gets stuck to it!.
You can wipe the inside!. For the outside, go against the "grain" -- up only!.
I never use the "holey" ones, just because there's no way to clean them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

very carefully:) (lol) !.!.!.!. I wash down the grater (going with the blade opening), and, if that doesn't work, I stick it in the dishwasher (or leave it for my husband to work out)Www@FoodAQ@Com
Use the cloth in the opposite direction of the way the blades are going!.!.!.that way it doesn't get stuck!. (not in an up and down motion!.!.!.!.just one direction)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
