Question: Why is it illegal to sell or get raw milk!?
Answers:
The FDA of course!. You can eat chocolate with all its rodent hair and bug parts with their blessing but not raw milk!.
2 ways around it!. In some states they're allowed to sell raw milk in containers as long as it's marked "for animal consumption only" ( I have sold this in Whole Foods in Florida)!.
The other way, if you own a farm you can drink the milk( your farm your cows) so dairies allow you to buy 1 share in the farm which makes you an "owner" making it legal to buy!.
Raw milk cheeses aged less then 60 days are also illegal in the USA ( but not in Europe)!. Pregnant women and people with low immune systems shouldn't drink or eat unpastaurized milk products!.
Outside of that the risks of getting sick are extremely low!.
Pasteurizing milk kills the flavor because it kills most of the bacteria!.
People often ask "why does cheese in Europe taste so much better"!? That's the reason!.( unpastaurized)!.
The FDA and USDA in the USA are a confused bunch!.
In reality you can get sick with almost all badly mishandled meat, poultry, fish, dairy, and many other products!.

Years ago( 1960's) there was an accident in Europe with a cheese called "Vacherin Mont D'or" ( the Swiss version, not the French) which caused some deaths!. Similar to the infamous "Jack in The Box" accident!. This caused the stir about pasteurization here in the US ( but not where it happened in Europe)! Things happen!. That's life!.
The ironic part about the mishap was that the Swiss were experimenting with pasteurizing at that time!.
The batch that caused the contamination was caused by improper pasteuization which caused a deadly bacteria to grow in the cheese!.
Had they have left if raw it would have never happened!.

To bad unpasteurized milk and cheeses(aged under 60 days ) are illegal when you can can sick taking your children to Taco Bell or some other fast food place while the incidents with unpasteaurized milk products are almost nil in the rest of the world!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

First of all you can get raw milk!. The catch is that you have to own the cow or "shares" in the cow!. You get it direct from the farmer!.
Pasteurization is necessary when milk is produced on a very large scale because of bacteria!. There are also some diseases that you can get from the cow!. I believe most are controlled!.
My family grew up using raw milk and we did not get sick from it!. The caveat is that the cows were hand milked, all of the buckets were boiled!. Unless you are sure that your supplier is doing this I would not take the risk!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Tax reasons!.

It's impossible to control how much the actual yield at a farm is - and if you can't predict or control how much milk, a farmer gets from his/her cow, you can't tax them properly!

poor food handling practices by dirty farm workers could lead to serious illnesses I don't think it's the milk itself, but lets say farmer john was working in the garden before he milked elsie!.!.!.!. what if some of the dirt and manure on his hands contaminated the milk!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

We used to get raw milk back in the 70's from our landlord who was a farmer!. I used to skim the cream off the top and make butter!. We used the milk and my daughter drank it!. You could probably find some today if you know someone who has dairy cows!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can get raw milk if you go to the farm, from cow or goats!. to sell milk to the public, it has to be boiled, called pasteurizing!. Cooking kills most germs!. Thank GodWww@FoodAQ@Com
