How can you tell if strawberries are ripened or not?!
My daughter loves strawberries!. When I go to the grocery stores, I just grab the packs that has the "reddest" ones, thinking those are the most ripe!. But often times, I am so wrong, as they turn out sour!. Yet today, my mom brought over a pack that are not the deepest or brightest red ones and almost all of them are sweet!. What's up with that!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

unfotunately it's yery hard to tell on the outside!.!.!. the nice pretty red ones can be white and bland on the inside!.!.!. this is because strawberries grown out-of-state and out of season (in hot houses) are picked before they ripen completely and are then artificially ripened with carbon dioxide!.!.!. this only changes their color, however!. Strawberries, unlike bananas do not ripen after they are picked!. To find the best strawberries, go to a farmers market, especially early summer and buy locally grown strawberries!.!.!. you can ask to sample one!.!.!. when you bite into it, look inside!.!.!. its nice and red throughout and sweet and juicy!. thats because it was picked at its peak, very recently!. of course this means you can only really get good ones in season, but who wants a bad strawberry!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Well one thing I have noticed when buying fresh produce is that organic always has a riper taste to it! I know that sounds weird but most fruit that comes in that isn't they spray chemicals on them to ripen them up in like an hour, well to make them look ripe when they are not! It is crazy but true!.!. so it is always a guessing game i hate to say but maybe try organic that look bright in color and see if that might help!. also some places if you talk to someone who is working will let you taste the fruit and see!.!. also they shine when ripe!.!.!. and if they smell strong then it is a good indicator they are ready to eat!Www@FoodAQ@Com
I go by how they smell!. Sometimes they smell better than they taste, though!
I've had much better luck buying at the farmer's market rather than at the supermarket -- the farmers are more likely to wait until they are riper since they don't have to transport them as far to the local market!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
