How can I learn to eat more healthily?!
I've slowly slipped into the habit of making convenience meals, such as chips, burgers, pot noodles and microwavable meals such as curry and spaghetti bolognese!. I don't smoke or drink alcohol, but I drink at least 1 litres of cola per day!. I really want and NEED to change my eating habits as it's getting me down knowing I'm filling my body with junk basically!. What tips can you give me, how can I learn to eat more healthilty!? Is there any foods, drinks that you would recommend!? my wife supports my trying to change, and has said she'll support me every step of the way, even if it's means throwing away my beloved cola!
Thanks for your help!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well - living healthy doen't mean going puritan!. Part of your health is linked to you treating yourself!. The trick is to feel you're treating yourself to a healthier life, when going without your beloved cola (sugar-addiction can be kicked!)!.
Start off with a 2 week period, where you don't have any kind of soda or sugar at all (even no fruit!)!. The you can start allowing it back into your diet!.
Make sure you get enough to eat, after you omit the unhealthy calories!. If you give your body fewer calories, it'll go into famin-mode!. That means it will just stop less important body-functions - such as maintaining your hair, nails, and skin!. The body will need fewer calories, and you'll have to cut even more, to loose weight!. F!.ex!. if you cut your daily intake to 1200 calories (normal about 1500 - 2000 depending on activity level), your body will adjust, and pretty soon, you'll only need 1200 calories!. If you eat 1400 calories (still lower than normal) you'll actually gain weight!
Whether you want to loose weight or just live healthy, you have to eat every 3 hours - never allow yourself to be hungry!. Have your 3 main-meals a day, plus a vegetable or whole-grain bread snack during the midmorning, and a fruit or smoothie in the midafternoon!.
If your daily rythm is askew (not up at 6-8am & in bed by 10-12pm), adjust the mealtimes to your rythm - don't do it the other way around!
Have at least 600 grams (1,3 lb) of vegetables & fruit (of which no more than 150 grams (5 oz) fruit), 30 grams of vegetable oil (1 oz - necessary to absorb the important vitamins A and D), get most of your proteins from fish and lean chicken!.
Choose wholegrain pasta, instead of white pasta, and eat potatoes with the skin on :)
Take a vitamin-supplement, and make sure you drink 2 litres (just over 2 quarts) of water!.
Get your sleep! Make sure you sleep 8 hours every night!.
Messing with your body's clock - eating at irregular hours, sleeping too little, and at odd hours - will be counterproductive in your efforts to live healthy!.
After 2 weeks you can start eating fruit - but wait about a week more, before letting the cola back in!. Limit yourself by having one large glass of water before your glass of cola, and don't count that glass of water - or the cola - in your daily liquid-intake!.
If you follow all the above, you should feel better in about a month!!
You'll still be able to grab a burger on the go, or the occational frozen meal!. But trust me, after eating fresh for a while, and feeling how good that is for you, you probably won't want to !.!.!.
- oh, and a BIG pat on the back from me, for wanting to live healthy! :)
That's what the star is for :)Www@FoodAQ@Com
