Why do you sometimes have to "brown" rice?!

Question: Why do you sometimes have to "brown" rice!?
Answers:
It will be fine!. I always brown any rice I make by sauteeing it in butter until it gets an amber color!. I only use enough butter to coat the rice I'm using!. I personally belive that it offers better flavor and color but I'm sure that there are others that would argue the opposite!. Next time try it, I think you will notice a difference!. Note: if you use a lot of seasoning, the flavor will be overpowered anyway!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sounds like you were making pilaf!. Pilaf requires browning the raw rice first in oil or butter to enhance/change the flavour, before the stock is added!. Risotto also requires browning the rice first but that uses specifically arborio rice which is higher in starch!.
If you skipped this step, your rice will still be edible and taste ok, it's just not pilaf!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yeah I think that the browning is just for looks or just to make it have a different flavor slightly!. Not sure!. It'll probably be fine (:Www@FoodAQ@Com

Its mostly for color, just to make it more appealing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
